The Udaivilas – Udaipur

It is a rather pleasant surprise when one learns that the Oberoi Hotels and Resorts in New Delhi remains a family-run Company, with 30 high class properties in India and exotic far-away locations such as Mauritius and Bali.

The Oberoi story began in 1934 when Raj Mohan Singh Oberoi purchased Clarkes Hotel in the beautiful Shimla and began to develop the ‘Oberoi’ brand in 1943 at a time where there were very few high standard Hotels in India.

Today, Oberoi’s chairman, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, is in charge of expansion and developing the luxurious Vilas resorts, replicas of palaces which include Rajvillas (Jaipur) and Udaivilas (Udaipur) .

Previously voted the best hotel in Asia, UdaiVilas is designed in the style of a traditional Rajasthani Palace, with decorative fountains and pavilions in 30 acres of landscaped gardens and a 20 acre wildlife sanctuary with deer and wild boar. Situated on the far side of the famous Lake Pichola, it has the excellent facilities to be expected of an Oberoi ‘Vilas’ hotel and enjoys fantastic views of the Lake Palace and the city.

Guests looking for a luxury dining restaurant in Udaipur will find their appetites more than satisfied by the range of fine international and Indian cuisines served at the indoor and al fresco restaurants. The Bar is located in a wonderful setting, allowing Guests to relax with an aperitif and enjoy lake and garden views.
